Dr. Usamah (Sam) Mossallam, Vice President Henry Ford Health International

Dr. Usamah (Sam) Mossallam graduated from the State University of New York Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn in 1994. He went on to a combined internal medicine/emergency medicine residency at the Medical Center of Delaware (Christiana Care Health System). He was the chief resident for both the categorical and combined residency programs in his fifth and final year. He is board certified in both emergency medicine and internal medicine. After completing his residency in 1999, Dr. Mossallam joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital where he soon became director of the combined residency programs in emergency medicine/internal medicine and emergency medicine/internal medicine/critical care medicine, as well as the associate residency director of the categorical emergency medicine residency. In early 2006, Dr. Mossallam left Henry Ford Health and accepted the position of Chairman of Emergency Medicine and associate Chief Medical Officer at the International Medical Center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where he commissioned a new emergency department alongside the commissioning of the International Medical Center. Dr. Mossallam rejoined Henry Ford Health in late 2007 as the service chief/medical director and division head of the Fairlane Emergency Department within Henry Ford Health.

In 2011, Dr. Mossallam accepted the position of Chief Medical Officer at Henry Ford Hospital. He created the utilization management program and the internal physician advisory service during his tenure as CMO. The Henry Ford hospital case mix index (CMI) grew from 1.64 to a state of Michigan high of 2.11. In January 2015, he was promoted to Vice President and Medical Director for international initiatives and projects for Henry Ford Health. He leads the system international activities that include licensed hospitals in Riyadh, KSA, Naruvi Hospitals in Vellore, Tamil Nadu and several others in India. He has established a visiting professor program in Dubai as well as grown the international patient services division at Henry Ford Health. Dr. Mossallam also leads the global health initiatives program at HFHS.

His interests include healthcare economics, hospital administration, utilization management, physician and healthcare provider education, emergency medicine administration, international healthcare and evidence-based medicine in clinical care.
